Underwater Removal Action at Oahu Island Targets FUDS, HI

HGL is performing an underwater MMRP removal action that encompasses over 55 acres around three islands off the north shore of Oahu. This area was once used to place aerial targets. HGL team divers have conducted an electromagnetic induction (EMI) survey and intrusive investigation. The clearance footprint was mapped using a combination of ultra-short baseline positioning, a Doppler velocity log, and GPS for positioning. EMI sensor data was collected for anomalies in select survey areas.

Using SCUBA diving techniques, HGL completed underwater geophysical surveys and identified 212 munitions items that required disposal using Vulcan low-order/deflagration technology. HGL retained a local subcontractor to provide community relations support.
