Peter Huyakorn, Ph.D., BCEE
A co-founder of HGL, Dr. Huyakorn has served as the company’s president and chief executive officer since 1987 and has established HGL as a nationally prominent small business that specializes in environmental remediation and water resource management services. A world-renowned expert in the development and application of groundwater/surface water and contaminant transport models, Dr. Huyakorn has more than 40 years of experience in hydrogeological evaluation, saltwater intrusion, subsurface contamination investigation, and site closure, and he has 160 technical publications to his credit. In 1983, Dr. Huyakorn co-authored an internationally recognized numerical simulation textbook entitled Computational Methods in Subsurface Flow with his world-renowned mentor, Professor George F. Pinder. The book has been published in English and Japanese.
Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Scott Schulein, PG
Mr. Schulein joined HGL in 2001 as Vice President of Engineering and Construction and became the company’s COO in 2009. He is a Professional Geologist with over 35 years of experience in environmental remediation, restoration, civil construction, military munitions response, water resources, and abandoned mine reclamation. Mr. Schulein is responsible for the day-to-day company operations including safe, successful execution and delivery of HGL’s projects worldwide. These projects have covered the full scope of environmental restoration and construction services at Superfund sites and federal facilities.

Janardan Patel, PMP
Mr. Patel joined HGL in 2005 and oversees day-to-day operation of Military Munitions Response and Engineering and Construction Divisions. Mr. Patel has been managing environmental response programs for over 25 years. He has overseen the full range of investigation, remedial design, and remedial activities at NASA-Kennedy Space Center, EPA Superfund sites, and Department of Defense IRP, FUDS, BRAC, MMRP, and FUSRAP sites nationwide. Under Mr. Patel’s leadership on these programs, HGL has consistently received numerous “Exceptional” performance ratings and commendations from its U.S. Government clients.
Senior Vice President, Business Development
Mark Morris, Ph.D.
Dr. Morris joined HGL in 2018 and is responsible for the company’s business development program. He is a civil/environmental engineer with over 30 years of experience in the environmental and engineering consulting industry, within the U.S. and internationally. He has served in various leadership roles with prominent industry firms, in both technical and business development capacities. Dr. Morris plays a leading role in developing business growth strategies and connecting these strategies to actions that lead to HGL’s continued growth and diversification.

Contracts and Procurement Group
Trudy Kearney
Ms. Kearney joined HGL in 1995, when the company had fewer than 50 employees. She oversees the contracts, subcontracts, and procurement operations of HGL. Her duties include contract negotiation, dispute resolution, teaming agreements, insurance, bonding, and risk management. In addition to supporting program and project managers on contract-related issues, Ms. Kearney has earned a reputation with her government counterparts as an experienced, professional, and capable team member.
