After the initial portion of his career in academia and environmental consulting, Dr. Huyakorn and his business partner, John B. Robertson, formed HGL in 1987. Since its start as a niche firm developing computer models for water resource planning and environmental restoration, HGL has grown significantly, continually expanding its client base and service offerings to include the full suite of environmental investigation and remediation services, as well as military munitions response services, and has played a key role in cleaning up hundreds of hazardous waste sites nationwide, including Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories around the globe.
Throughout the last 35 years, Dr. Huyakorn has ensured that HGL remains at the forefront of the environmental and water resources industry. His continuous commitment to research and development have earned HGL a reputation for unsurpassed modeling and optimization tools that leverage the latest technology to achieve cost savings. He also has served as a mentor to the next generation of experts in the field. Further, by continually emphasizing the importance of innovation, he keeps HGL at the forefront in the use of the latest environmental remediation technologies to preserve human health and the earth’s natural resources.
Dr. Huyakorn is proud to accept this honor from AAEES, and he looks forward to continuing to contribute to the field of environmental engineering as it evolves to address challenges such as PFAS Response and Climate Change Adaptation, as well as others that are sure to follow.
