Secure Energy for a Changing Environment – HGL provides a comprehensive suite of energy management, planning, and electrical power grid optimization modeling for traditional, clean, and renewable energy.
Renewable Energy/Energy Security
HGL is evaluating new and emerging energy technologies for the Department of Defense in full-scale demonstrations within integrated building environments. Clean and renewable energy technologies in the past decade have advanced the potential for more sustainable power generation throughout the world. Not only are the economics becoming more favorable, but many of the early institutional barriers have been reduced, allowing further penetration of renewables and thereby increasing the potential for further prominence of these technologies in the future.

Energy Conservation and Efficiency
Over 30 percent of energy consumption in the United States can be attributed to the heating and cooling of buildings. The Department of Defense is the single greatest user of energy in the federal government, although it represents only 1 percent of this nation’s total energy consumption. DoD manages more than 300,000 buildings on some 500 installations and spends close to $4 billion every year on facility energy consumption. These buildings, installations, and the nontactical vehicles used on them contribute nearly 40 percent of the military’s greenhouse gas emissions. HGL has practical solutions to improve energy conservation and efficiency, reduce water and energy demand, and lower GHG emissions for not only the DoD, but also the millions of buildings in need of energy management around the world.
