HGL uses forensics techniques to discover and review documentary and technical information. Results and findings are used to establish legal evidence relating to environmental contamination, assess liability, allocate cleanup costs, and assist in response action implementation. HGL's forensics experts excel in gathering, managing, integrating, and analyzing documentary, interview, and aerial photographic evidence from archival and electronic sources. Clients working through the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) process benefit especially from the Environmental Forensics Division's (EFD) automated and online strategies for environmental record management and auditing.

During the past 10 years, the EFD has performed over 150 forensics and environmental records management projects for government clients. Most of these have been conducted in support of CERCLA and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act actions and have been provided through Cost Reimbursable, Time and Material, Firm Fixed Price, and Performance-Based contracts.
