Public involvement in environmental decision making is guaranteed under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act and the Superfund Amendment and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (Superfund). But effective community outreach requires more than holding open public meetings and trusting that interested stakeholders will show up. Unless relationships with the public and regulators are nurtured from a project's start, stakeholders' concerns can emerge at any time to derail a well-designed remediation or site closeout effort.

HGL engages stakeholders and lead regulatory agencies at the earliest stage of the investigation process to define a common understanding of the project and its closeout objectives. Our Forensics Team assesses public attitudes toward potential contamination and remediation approaches and then crafts communication strategies and plans that build understanding and trust between stakeholders and clients so that they can work collaboratively toward mutually agreeable solutions.
